Clogged drains can certainly be a pain, but they tend to become an even bigger problem during the holiday season. Just imagine having a house full of guests and the kitchen sink refuses to drain, or someone flushes the toilet and it happens to overflow? Most people would panic in that situation. Cleaning up after that disgusting mess can be devastating to say the least. Not only do you need to deal with the clean up job, but you also need to find a solution to the problem. It can be extremely difficult to find a plumber that is willing to work on a major holiday.
That means you may very well be stuck with a house full of people that cannot use the toilets or sinks. If you have a bunch of dirty dishes you can forget about using the dishwasher. The bottom line is that a clogged drain can actually ruin your holiday season. The good news is that this can all be prevented with a simple preventative maintenance procedure called hydro jetting. In addition to being cost effective, hydro jetting can actually save the day.
What Is Hydro Jetting?
Hydro jetting is a high-tech method used by professionals to clean slow or clogged sewage lines. Although hydro jetting can be used in emergency situations, it is best to utilize the process as a preventative maintenance procedure. In essence, you do not need to wait until the drains are clogged, and the plumbing system is not functioning properly to have the drains cleaned. So how does hydro jetting work? A nozzle is fed directly into your drain or into the pipe. The nozzle is typically self-propelled throughout the pipe with a water pressure of 3,500 pounds per square inch or more.
As the nozzle encounter any debris located within the pipe, such as thick grease, food, or hair, a high-pressure jet stream exerts an incredibly powerful force on the material. In essence, the highly pressurized water will remove any buildup of materials that can lead to blockages. If the pipes are already blocked, the hydro jetting will remove the clogs. Hydro jetting can also remove scale buildup, silt, and other materials that build up on the interior walls of the pipes.
Routine hydro jetting should be performed in order to remove these items that end up causing severe blockages in the pipeline. Hydro jetting completely and thoroughly cleans pipes of residual buildup in a manner that snaking cannot. Snaking out the pipes only breaks up the clogs, however it leaves the build up that sticks to the interior walls of the pipes. In addition, hydro jetting is environmentally friendly since absolutely zero harsh chemicals are used in the process.
Hydro jetting should only be performed by a professional that has the proper training and experience to operate the machinery correctly. Otherwise, the high pressure could very well damage the pipes. Inexperienced operators tend to go a bit too lightly, which means the plumbing system is not being cleaned to its full capacity. Hydro jetting can also vastly improve the performance of older plumbing lines that suffer from years of build up.
