Do you know what hydro excavation is? In essence, it is a far better way to excavate the ground. Hydro excavation does not require the use of large machinery. As you know large machinery is incredibly expensive to purchase, expensive to operate, and can be hazardous for the environment and utilities. Hydro excavation does not require much if any backfill once the excavation and installation process is complete. That means it only removes the amount of earth that’s actually needed for the installation and nothing more.

That means you don’t need to worry about temporarily storing the backfill on your jobsite. How many times have you had to move the backfill from one spot on the jobsite to another in order to make room for machinery or construction of the building? Hydro excavation also significantly cuts down on resources including manpower and fuel. Hydro excavation equipment is also perfect for compact work environments and can fit into spaces that are impossible to access with large machinery such as backhoes and excavators.

Since hydro excavation is so precise, it avoids accidental damage that could occur when digging trenches for utilities such as cable, gas, electrical, phone, and internet lines. These are just a few reasons why a great deal of construction and utility installation operations are now utilizing hydro excavation as the go to excavation method. So how does hydro excavation actually work?

Highly pressurized water is basically injected into the ground through a hose. The water liquefies the soil. The water and soil quickly becomes a slurry mix. At that point the slurry mix is vacuumed through the use of a powerful pumping system into a tank that is located on a mobile vacuum truck. The slurry mix is then stored in the tank of the vacuum truck until it is removed from the job site and permanently disposed of. The hydro excavation process can be utilized in virtually any type of soil, including frozen ground.

The bottom line is that hydro excavation saves you time. Just as important, hydro excavation also saves you money. Both of these aspects are great for your budget and your bottom line. So if you want to save time and money on your next excavation project, give hydro excavation a try.
