Do you own or operate a construction company, or another type of business that hires excavation contractors? If you answered yes to this question than it’s time for you to consider a far superior method. This new excavation process is faster, less expensive, and all but eliminates the dangers involved with the traditional excavation method. It’s called Hydro Excavation. The high-tech hydro excavation procedure utilizes water and a vacuum system to dig the ground. It does not require the use of heavy-duty excavation machinery or equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, and commercial dump trucks.

Hydro excavation does not require multiple people operating multiple trucks, which means you, will save a considerable amount of money on man-hours and operating costs such as diesel fuel. In addition, hydro excavation can be performed in areas that are too tight, too fragile, or too small for traditional excavation equipment to physically reach. Perhaps the best part of the hydro excavation process is that it is incredibly fast, precise, and super safe. You can even use to excavate utility lines that are buried underground without worrying about causing damage to those or other buried utility lines.

That makes hydro excavation the perfect method for trenching. So how does the hydro excavation process work? In essence it is a very basic yet incredibly affective principal. Highly pressurized water is sprayed out of a hose and into the ground. As the water breaks up the soil it turns into slurry. The slurry is then removed with an industrial vacuum system. The industrial vacuum system is typically attached to a vacuum truck. Here’s how that works. Another hose, that’s attached to the vacuum system, is used to suck up the slurry.

The slurry enters into a holding tank that is located on the vacuum truck. The slurry can be temporarily stored on the vacuum truck until it is removed from the job site for permanent disposal. At this point you may be wondering what happens to the backfill. The good news is that there is very little backfill to worry about. The hydro excavation method removes the soil in such a precise manner that it doesn’t take out more soil than is necessary for the item being installed such as a foundation.

Once the install is constructed, there is basically zero empty space to fill in. Imagine how much time and money you will save on your next project if you don’t need to deal with backfilling the excavation area or storing the backfill until it needs to be used. Typically speaking, the hydro excavation method only takes two operators to perform the entire job at a fraction of the time.
