Did you know that it’s the time to reduce the damage of parking lot contamination? First, we should explain what parking lot contamination is. In essence, when automobiles are parked in your parking lot they tend to leak fluids such as oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid to name a few. This holds especially true for older cars, trucks, SUV’s and vans. The fluids that those vehicles are leaking are not good for the surface of your parking lot. They’re also not good for the environment.

For example, when those fluids leak they form a puddle on top of the asphalt surface of your parking lot. The fluids are composed of chemicals that eat away at the asphalt. That’s a big reason why you need to keep sealcoating and even resurfacing with new asphalt every few years. That’s an expensive maintenance job and the money certainly adds up over the years. As we mentioned earlier, the chemicals are bad for the environment. Whenever it rains or large amounts of snow melt, it creates a flow of water.

If that storm water isn’t draining correctly, it can cause a great deal of damage. First and foremost, it can flood the surrounding area. If that happens, you’re responsible for the damages from both a legal and financial aspect. Chances are fairly high that you don’t have a separate flood insurance policy on the parking lot. So, that means you could end up paying tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages. Then there is the pollution problem.

Remember when we mentioned that the fluids and chemicals within those fluids that leak from vehicles parked in your parking lot are terrible for the environment? Well, if your parking lot floods, those chemicals are in the flood water. That means they pollute wherever the storm water is flowing. For example, if the storm water ends up in a nearby body of water, such as a stream, pond, river, or lake, that body of water becomes polluted with the chemicals. Worse yet, you may be responsible for having to clean up the pollution.

The tab for the flood damage is bad enough. Now we’re talking about far more money in environmental cleanup. The good news is that we can help prevent your parking lot from flooding, and significantly reduce the damage of parking lot contamination.
