A great deal of industries must store liquid and solids in large quantities, and the best way to accomplish this is in either an above ground storage tank, or an underground storage tank. That being stated, storage tanks are typically expensive, which means it is incredibly important to keep them in good working order at all times. That way you will be able to extend the life of your storage tanks. The bottom line is that proper storage tank maintenance will save you a significant amount of money in the long run. The question that you may be asking yourself at this point is when should you have your storage tanks cleaned and inspected.

First and foremost, if you are experiencing any issues with a storage tank, such as a mechanical failure, the tank must be emptied, cleaned, and made vapor free prior to making any of the necessary repairs. In this case, the main purpose of having the storage tank properly cleaned is to provide a safe environment for anyone who is entering into the tank to make the repairs and or perform an inspection. Speaking of inspections, your storage tanks should be cleaned when either an internal or government agency based inspection is required. The tank or tanks must be taken offline, cleaned, and properly prepared so that the inspector can safely enter into the unit.

Your storage tanks should also be cleaned if you are changing products. For example, if you plan to house gasoline instead of diesel fuel in your storage tank a full and thorough cleaning is necessary. All impurities and residues must be properly removed in order to avoid contamination. Prior to any storage tank cleaning the current product that is being stored in the tank must be pumped or drained until the point in which the tank has lost suction from the low suction nozzle. In essence, there will still be many gallons of the product that is left at the bottom of the storage tank.

A professional storage tank cleaning company will use a Vactor or vacuum truck to remove and temporarily store the remaining gallons of liquids or sludge. Once this stage is complete, the professional storage tank cleaning technicians will be able to enter into the tanks in order to perform their cleaning duties. Once the cleaning phase is complete, the technicians will inspect the storage tank to ensure it has been fully cleaned, and that all vapors have been removed. Once the storage tank inspection is complete, the tank can be refilled with the product or waste materials and put back online.
