The Tops Signs of a Clogged Sewer Line

If you’re having issues with the toilets and or drains at your property, you may very well have a clogged sewer line. Although many property owners believe the problems stem from the plumbing fixture units themselves, it’s usually caused by something deeper in the system. For example, when the toilets do not flush properly and the sink, shower, and tub drains do not drain quick enough or at all, it’s mostly due to a clogged sewer line in your building or home. That means the flushing and drainage problems are caused by a block in the plumbing pipes.

Typically speaking, most property owners and managers will plunge the toilets when the issues first start, and pour a liquid de-clogging agent down the drains in the sinks, showers, and tubs.  However, that only takes care of the situation on a temporary basis. For example, plunging the toilet causes enough suction for the toilet to flush, but it certainly does not remove the block in the sewer line on a permanent basis. Liquid de-clogging agents only make a small hole in the blockage to allow the waste water to pass through until the clog fills back in again.

It does not permanently remove the clog in the sewer line. The next step is to have the  pipes snaked, which basically means a technician will insert a cable into the sewer pipes in order to punch a hole in the clog. That’s better than plunging the toilets on a constant basis and pouring liquid de-clogging agent in the sinks, showers, and tubs every week or every other week. However the hole in the clog will fill back in within a month or two, which means you’re back in the same boat.

In addition to having issues when flushing the toilets and slow draining sinks, showers, and tubs, another tell-tale sign that you have a clogged sewer line is if you start smelling raw sewage near the plumbing fixtures. In essence, it’s the sewage gas that’s escaping from the toilets and drains in the sinks, showers, and tubs. You will also start noticing puddles that smell like raw sewage forming in the basement and or around the exterior of the property. Those puddles smell like raw sewage because they are raw sewage. Stay away and contact a company that specializes in clearing clogged sewer lines.

If left untreated, the wastewater and raw sewage will even eventually back up the sewer pipes and enter into your property through the toilets, and drains in the sinks, showers, and tubs.
